DevUpdate #89: Working Rework Work

March 24, 2023

Hey everyone, lemmingllama here. The 5.27 update has fully released, and that has us looking now towards our next major update. Similar to 5.27, the 5.28 update will have some large back-end reworks to help with our code quality and freeing up space for future changes, as well as some other quality of life improvements. Let’s get into it!

To start off, we’re continuing our reworks surrounding the Clan systems, this time around Clan Quests. Clan Quests are run with each event and gives a target for event currency or Global Raid damage to earn rewards. However, these targets are the same for all clans, so can be difficult for small clans to complete, and can be very easy for full and active clans. In 5.28, we are changing the Clan Quest system so the rewards will scale based off the total amount of event currency or Global Raid damage dealt. This will allow for smaller clans to still have achievable rewards to aim for, while also giving more active clans new targets to aim for above the old limits. While there still will be a cap on the overall possible rewards, it will be set higher than the current limits to give clans more goals to work together to complete.

Last update, we made some large back-end changes to the Clan system, and this has allowed for us to add new features like Clan Renaming and the above Clan Quest rework. We are starting a similar rework to another older legacy system in a similar fashion, this time being the Equipment system. These changes will not be immediately noticeable in-game, but it will allow for changes that were previously impossible with the old system, as well as streamline any future development involving equipment. Most notably, once we are fully completed with this rework, new equipment rewards will generate a lot faster from the server and we will be able to reward equipment more smoothly in a lot of places throughout the game. This change is starting with the 5.28 update, but will be fully finishing the update afterwards and will come with some exciting new features.

We plan on continuing to rework some of these older systems that require love and attention to allow for smooth development of Tap Titans 2 into the future, and will free up a lot of space for us to implement community suggestions in the future. We have other back-end reworks planned in 2023 that we can announce in the future that should lead to some very exciting changes that have been long requested. If you have any long-standing suggestions that you want to see added to the game, please post it in the comments or on our social media!

Thank you for reading! Next week we’ll get into some more equipment related news, including some changes to crafting.

Happy Tapping!
